Real Good Foods has launched a Pancake & Sausage Breakfast on a Stick at Sam's Club, entering the frozen breakfast daypart with a chicken breakfast sausage wrapped in pancake batter and maple syrup. Per the company, the product delivers 15 grams of protein and 7 grams of net carbs per serving.
The launch represents a meaningful category move for Real Good Foods, which has built its portfolio primarily around frozen dinner and handheld items including lightly breaded chicken, enchiladas, burritos, chicken meatballs and stuffed chicken bites. The brand positions itself around comfort foods made with more protein, fewer processed carbs and real food ingredients, a through-line the new breakfast format directly extends.
Real Good Foods, publicly traded on Nasdaq under the ticker RGF, started in 2018 with two products sold directly from its website: Chicken Crust Pizzas and Mini Enchiladas. The company says it now sells across more than 16,000 stores nationwide, with retail partners including Walmart, Kroger, Sam's Club, H-E-B, Publix and Costco. The brand has previously used the Sam's Club channel as a vehicle for category expansion, including earlier launches of high-protein, low-carb frozen entrees through the club format.
Why it matters
The frozen breakfast segment has historically been dominated by legacy brands, and better-for-you challengers have been slower to establish footholds there than in the dinner or snack occasions. Real Good Foods' move into a portable morning format signals an intent to claim more eating occasions within existing retail relationships, rather than simply adding SKUs to familiar categories. The Sam's Club channel, which drives strong household penetration through bulk formats and a membership model, provides a concentrated testing environment for a handheld breakfast item aimed at busy families. A successful velocity read there could open a clear path to the brand's broader grocery and mass distribution.
What to watch
Whether the Pancake & Sausage Breakfast on a Stick extends beyond its Sam's Club placement is the key open question. With existing shelf presence at Walmart, Kroger and other major grocers, Real Good Foods has the distribution infrastructure to scale a club-channel item into wider retail. The speed and scope of any such expansion will indicate how seriously the brand is treating breakfast as a pillar category rather than a single-channel test.
