818 Tequila, the brand founded by Kendall Jenner, reported a 73% year-over-year volume increase in the most recent four-week measurement period, per the company, outpacing a U.S. tequila category that was roughly flat over the same span.

The gains spanned the core portfolio. Reposado led with a 122% volume rise while Blanco climbed 58%. The brand also cited double-digit U.S. growth since 2023, a run that has coincided with Sazerac's April acquisition of an equity stake and assumption of exclusive U.S. sales and distribution responsibilities. 818 produces its lineup from Blue Weber agave sourced through family-owned farms in Jalisco, Mexico, and sells four expressions: Blanco, Reposado, Añejo, and Eight Reserve. The company reports more than 50 tasting awards across 14 international competitions.

Why it matters

The celebrity spirits segment has faced persistent questions about whether founder-fronted brands can sustain commercial velocity once launch momentum fades. The 818 figures, if they hold, offer a concrete counter-argument: that pairing a high-visibility brand with an established distribution partner can convert awareness into durable volume. The Sazerac equity stake adds structural alignment beyond a conventional distribution agreement, giving the distributor a direct financial interest in 818's growth rather than just its throughput. That arrangement changes the incentive calculus on both sides of the relationship.

The timing also matters at the category level. U.S. tequila expanded rapidly in the years following the pandemic, and a period of roughly flat category performance marks a clear moderation. Outperforming in a flat market requires taking share rather than simply riding category growth, which is a harder and more meaningful commercial test than the launch-window numbers most celebrity brands post.

What to watch

Whether the velocity can persist beyond the initial distribution-boost effect of the Sazerac partnership is the central open question. A single four-week window of outperformance is an early data point rather than a confirmed trend. The Reposado segment's 122% jump is notable enough to warrant monitoring for whether it reflects genuine retail sell-through or a one-time trade inventory build as Sazerac's network comes fully online.
